Angry young men: Picasso, Miró, Dalì exhibition in Florence
Over seventy works from the youth period of these three artists will be shown from March 12th to July 17th 2011 in Florence at Palazzo Strozzi for the exhibition "Angry Young Men. Picasso Miró Dalì: The birth of modernity".
The theme of the exhibition is to shed light on the works of the youth period of these great masters. The exhibition is made up of a series of flashbacks that travel through time to sew the thread of a tale. The early sketches of Picasso will be shown, from which cubism will them subsequently be born, and Miró and Dalì will be placed in comparison, highlighting the stylistic differences that characterise the period prior to the two artists' joining of the Surrealist movement.
For the first time outside of Spain, Picasso's notebook "Cahier 7" from 1907 will be exhibited, along with the revolutionary masterpiece "Les Damoiselles d'Avignon" which have proven to be a starting point for the birth of the language of modern art.
All three artists, born and raised in Catalonia, reached fame in France, where both Picasso and Miró decided to base their careers, while Dalì chose to remain in Spain.
The path of the exhibition develops firstly through Dalì and Miró, (1926) then traces the birth of modernity with the comparison Dalì-Miró and lastly arrives at the crossroads between Miró and Picasso.
